Nellie Martha Lievsay White died peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of 28 March, at Sierra Oaks in Redding at the age of 103 years and 7 months.
Nellie was born in Shasta, as was her mother. Her parents were George Riley Lievsay and Nellie Jane Lord Lievsay. Nellie was predeceased by her parents, her husband John Marshall White, sisters Thyra Naomi Heffelfinger and Myrle Lord Davis Mooers and by brother Wesley Lievsay.
Nellie is survived by her children, John Lievsay White of Redding, Marshall White of Kensington, CA and Myrleann Thyra Schwerin of Walnut Crossing, NC; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and by niece Nancy Jane Dohn and nephew Gerald Lievsay.
Nellie lived in Shasta most of her life. She married John in 1926 and was a homemaker while he worked first in mining, then at Shasta Dam and lastly for PG&E. Later she worked 10 years in grammar school cafeterias in Redding.
Nellie joined the Hiawatha Parlor #140 of the Native Daughters of the Golden West in 1938 and served for years on the Board of the Shasta Elementary School.
Nellie will be buried in the Shasta Masonic Cemetery at a family gathering. She was related to several Shasta County pioneer families including Lord, Hufford, and Fish.
