The Erie Steam Bakery building on the corner of East 4th and French Streets in downtown Erie, PA was built by W.J. Sands & Sons in 1894 as an expansion of the bakery that was founded in 1842. Over the door is a large stone engraved with the words: "W.J. Sands & Sons Offices - 1842 - 1894" Today the building is known as Lafayette Place due to it also being the location of a visit from the Marquis de La Fayette in 1825.
