According to the NSW Government's Office of Environment & Heritage (
visit link) the "Walgett Courthouse is a modest example of the Victorian Regency style and a good example of courthouses designed by Colonial Architect James Barnet. The courthouse is a landmark building in Walgett. The courthouse has been associated with the provision of law and justice in the town and broader region since 1880".
In addition to legal matters the court house is a Government Access Centre. GACs are a 'one-stop shop' for government services for rural and remote communities. The Walgett GAC can:
* undertake agreed transactions on behalf of various State government agencies
* provide information on a range of government activities and services
* organise referrals and appointment for visiting agency staff.
