Vlagtwedde (inhabitants per March 31, 2015: 16,117, source: CBS) is a municipality in the southeast of the Dutch province of Groningen in the region Westerwolde. The municipality covers an area of 170.30 km² (of which 1.24 km² water). The town hall is in Sellingen.
In 1822 the then municipality Bourtange was (in the villages of Ter Apel and Bourtange Sellingen) lifted and attached to the municipality Vlagtwedde. In 1968 Hebrecht of the former municipality of Bellingwolde - which since then with Wedde was forming the new municipality Bellingwedde - added to the municipality Vlagtwedde.
