Vzniku muzea ve Veselí nad Moravou predcházelo v roce 1906 založení "Muzejní spolecnosti pro Slovácko a Veselí nad Moravou". Tato spolecnost se snažila pod vlivem kulturní a spolecenské aktivity na Morave na konci devatenáctého a pocátku dvacátého století shromaždovat a uchovávat predevším národopisné a historické památky a zajímavosti mající vztah k mestu a okolí. Od pocátku byly sbírkové predmety pro budoucí muzeum shromaždovány ve škole. V techto prostorách byla také 2.kvetna 1910 zprístupnena první stálá muzejní expozice. Na sberné i prezentacní cinnosti muzea meli hlavní zásluhu predevším místní ucitelé, zejména Josef Homola a Andelín Odstrcil.
Muzeum po druhé svetové válce nekolikrát mení své sídlo. Až v roce 1957 získává nynejší budovu na Bartolomejském námestí. Presto až do roku 1993 není jediným uživatelem budovy, zásadne rekonstruované v letech 1978 - 1986. V letech 1949 - 1960 muzeum plní funkci okresního muzea a rídí pobocky ve Strážnici, Bzenci a ve Velké nad Velickou. V roce 1964 se stává detašovaným pracovištem Okresního muzea v Hodoníne - dnes Masarykova muzea. Nová stálá expozice nazvaná "Od Doubravy po Javorinu", rozdelená na cást archeologickou, historickou a etnografickou, je zprístupnena verejnosti od pocátku cervna roku 1988.

Establishment of the museum in Veseli nad Moravia preceded the 1906 establishment of the "Museum Society for Slovacko and Veseli nad Moravia." The company tried under the influence of cultural and social activities in Moravia in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century to collect and store primarily ethnographic and historic monuments and sites having relation to the city and its surroundings. Since the beginning of the collection objects for the future museum collected at the school. These premises were also made available May 2, 1910 the first permanent museum exhibition. In the years 1949-1960 the museum serves as the district museum and manages branch offices in Strážnice Bzenec and Great Velickou. In 1964, it became a field office of the District Museum in Hodonin - today Masaryk museum. The new permanent exhibition entitled "From Doubrava after Javorina", divided into a part of archaeological, historical and ethnographic, is open to the public from early June 1988.
