Proper Description: "A depiction of a Union and a Confederate soldier embracing each other and standing beside the flag. The soldiers stand atop a tall circular shaft which rests atop a colonnade. Bronze plaques with inscriptions are on four sides around the circumference of the shaft. Marble stairs lead up to the colonnade." ~ Smithsonian American Art Museum
Remarks: "Roland Hinton Perry designed the sculpture; A. J. Zabniskie prepared the plans and specifications; and G. H. Cutting Granite Company served as the contractor. The monument commemorates the battle for Lookout Mountain. The cost of the monument was $80,000. ~ Smithsonian American Art Museum
