A pair of life-size male lions strike a dramatic pose as they stand on each side of the main entrance to Searle Castle. Each lion is depicted with their back legs placed slightly back with their mouths open showing their teeth. The stand on a stone base that inclines slightly upward.

The Searles Castle was built in the 1880s, in the French chateau-style. It was commissioned in 1888 by Mary Hopkins, widow of railroad millionaire Mark Hopkins. Most recently it housed John Dewey Academy, a school for troubled teens. They have since offered the property for sale for $15 million.
