The Light Horse Artwork recognises the origins of the Australian Light Horse emu plume with Capella. The monument consists of a Light Horse Brigade sculpture and two screen dioramas.
Councillor Peter Maguire is still the Mayor of the Central Highlands Regional Council which is based in the town of Emerald. He was born in the area & has raised his family here. Prior to the amalgamations that formed the current council, Peter Maguire was the Mayor of the Emerald Shire Council.
The plaque recording the official opening is worded:
This "Light Horse Artwork" was officially opened by the Mayor of the Central Highlands Regional Council Councillor Peter Maguire on 12th September 2009 as part of the Q150 celebrations.
