The Long Point Lighthouse is located at the tip of Long Point and is only accessible by boat. The tower was built in 1916 by Charles Mattaini and is 102 feet tall. In addition to the light a fog horn and radio beacon were also installed nearby.
The tower originally had a third order Fresnel lens but was switched to a solar powered lens to help focus the light in 1989. It was also automated in 1989.
It's interference with bird migrations have been greatly studied at the lighthouse. In some cases up to 2000 birds a night died at the house. The Long Point Bird Observatory was installed nearby and because of changes in the light these deaths have gone down immensely.
