Designed by Grumman, and built under contract in Canada by DeHavilland Canada Ltd., the Tracker was Canada’s first multi-role aircraft. The Tracker was purchased for use by Royal Canadian Navy Squadrons, primarily aboard the carrier HMCS Bonaventure. the Tracker had the capability to search out and destroy submarines with torpedoes or depth charges. The Wright Cyclone engines gave the Tracker a patrol speed of 140 mph (225 km/h), a ceiling of 12,000 ft (3,658 m) and a range of 1,000 mi (1,609 km). A total of 99 Trackers were delivered to the RCN: 42 CS2F1 and 57 CS2F2 versions.

The aircraft on display was delivered to the RCN in 1957 and was soon utilized as a technical training aid. It remained here at CFB Borden as instructional aid 742B until it was Struck off Strength in 1982. Trackers remained in service with the CF until 1993, when the 20 remaining Trackers were sold to a water-bombing company in British Columbia.

The paint scheme on display is unusual in that the CAF markings still indicate original RCN numbers.
