La construction du Pont victoria a débuté en 1854 et terminé en 1859, son inauguration a eu lieu le 12 décembre. Ce fut le premier pont enjambant le fleuve Saint-Laurent. Mesurant 2790 mètres, il était le plus long pont ferroviaire au monde et considéré comme la huitième merveille du monde.
De 1859 à 1897, ce fut un pont strictement ferroviaire. Des travaux majeurs débutant en 1897 qui permirent d'installer une deuxième voie ferroviaire et une ligne de tramway. En 1927, une voie routière fut ajoutée. Puis une deuxième en 1956, remplaçant le tramway. En 1958, lors des travaux d'aménagement de la voie maritime du Saint-Laurent, une voie de contournement fut ajoutée du côté de Saint-Lambert. Celle-ci permet à la circulation de continuer sur le pont même lorsqu'un bateau est engagé dans les écluses.
D'abord nommé le Grand pont Victoria en l'honneur de la reine Victoria, il a été officiellement inauguré de nouveau en tant que le Victoria Jubilee Bridge suivant les rénovations de 1897 (AD MDCCCXCVII). Il a été renommé le pont Victoria à nouveau en 1978.

The construction of the Pont Victoria began in 1854 and ended in 1859, its inauguration was held on 12 December. It was the first bridge across the St. Lawrence River. Measuring 2,790 meters, it was the longest railway bridge in the world and considered the eighth wonder of the world.
From 1859 to 1897, it was strictly a railway bridge. Major renovation work began in 1897, they allowed installation of a second railroad and a tram line. In 1927, a road fo automobiles was added. Then a second in 1956, replacing the tram. In 1958, during the development works of the St. Lawrence Seaway, a bypass was added near Saint-Lambert. This allowed traffic to continue circulating when a ship was engaged in the locks.
Originally named the Grand Victoria Bridge in honor of Queen Victoria, it was officially rededicated as the Victoria Jubilee Bridge following the 1897 renovations (AD MDCCCXCVII). It was renamed the Victoria Bridge again in 1978.
