Montreux is a municipality in the district of Riviera-Pays-d'Enhaut in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.
It is located on Lake Geneva at the foot of the Alps and has a population, as of December 2013, of 25,969 and nearly 90,000 in the agglomeration.
Montreux is famous for its Jazz Festival. The Montreux Jazz Festival is far more than the evocative name of one of the world’s major cultural events. Since its beginnings in 1967, the Festival has developed its palette of activities considerably. Today the Festival is involved in an array of endeavors, including a Foundation encouraging the next generation of musicians, the Montreux Jazz Café, and Montreux Sounds, the largest audiovisual concert archives in the world.
