The weapon of Hoogeveen has not changed substantially since the award of November 10, 1819.
The weapon symbolizes what was then the main income sources of the municipality Hoogeveen were: peat and honey.
However, the weapon that was requested is not granted. The municipality asked the High Council of Nobility to a weapon where the hives as shield holders would serve. Such a weapon was used in the 18th century.
