This is an unusual location for a US Civil War memorial, but is very well displayed. The collection must be kept indoors in a climate controlled case due to its fragile nature. The memorial to the Battle of Cold Harbor, "... one of the final battles of Union Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's Overland Campaign during the American Civil War, and is remembered as one of American history's bloodiest, most lopsided battles. Thousands of Union soldiers were killed or wounded in a hopeless frontal assault against the fortified positions of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's army." (excerpted from (

The memorial features artifacts from the Civil War Cold Harbor battlefield, photographs of the Union soldiers and the 1864 diary of Union Soldier Henry Hayden of the 36th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment. Excerpts from the diary are transcribed and typewritten for the viewer to enjoy.
This memorial is found in the Pioneer Town Museum in Cedaredge, Colorado, USA. The museum is open seasonally (summer), so check their website for the operation hours (
