I only ever knew him as "Fardy", being the Grandfather of my then wife, Carolyn (nee Fraser); Great Grandfather of my sons, and Father of my 'Mother-ex-law' ("Mum").
He worked many years for the Australian Gas Company. He lived most of his married life at Mount Colah in northern Sydney.
He denied many times that he was 'old', until when his son (Peter) retired aged 60 years, I told him that he should and could consider himself old, now that both his children had retired!
He moved to a retirement home at Forster after his daughter moved to Taree on the NSW Mid North Coast, and his son moved at almost the same time to Failford, just 10 minutes away.
I went to his 100th birthday party at Forster, where he received 'telegrams' from the Prime Minister of Australia, Queen Elizabeth, and a multitude of politicians.
He claimed it was his Italian heritage that gave him the ability to give freely his hugs to all and sundry.
Funeral / Death notice from "the Record", belated, as it was in the 17th August, 2013 edition.
