"Chenango Street Methodist Church was a splinter congregation of Centenary, part of a mission effort on Binghamton’s north side...In 1886 the congregation sold the building and purchased a lot on the corner of Chenango and Allen streets. Construction began and the church was finished in the fall of 1888...Unfortunately, on November 14th, 1910, at 4:30am a fire destroyed the church...Construction began on July 29, 1911, starting with the Sunday school building...The architects selected for the new buildings were Lacey and Company, and the builder was S. Henry Carrington. On July 15, 1912 the foundation of the new church building was started and finished in fifteen months. The total cost of the two connected buildings was $77,000. In 1939 the Methodist Episcopal Church North and Methodist Episcopal Church South re-formed as the Methodist Church. Church membership stood at 988 in 1950."
