The El Reno Hotel is a two-story frame building, constructed in 1892 by John Kossuth, a mere three years after the area was settled. The place was a going concern as El Reno featured prominently in the activities in those early days. Indoor plumbing was added in 1905, and electricity soon followed. A dining room was later added in 1910. Room and Board costs $10.00 a week back then. The owner in those days was Mrs. Frost who cooked all the meals, including meals for the prisoners in a nearby jail. She was a busy woman!
The hotel served its last guests in 1975 and began a slow deterioration. It was rescued, renovated, and can be again appreciated on the grounds of the historical museum. A photo of the hotel when it sat in ruins can be seen in the Gallery.
Today, it has a new coat of paint. The hotel is a plain frame rectangle with a flat roof. The sides are clapboard. Windows are one-over-one single hung. The front entrance has two wood doors, flanked by windows. The hotel was placed on the National Register in 1979.
