To liven up the Place de Cocotiers, the municipality erected a bandstand in 1879. It quickly became a meeting place for the locals who came three times a week to listen to music played by the transported convicts. This octagonal structure, topped by Apollon's lyre, was restored in 1893 and received the municipal brass band, The Caledonian and The Orpheon. U.S. army bands also played here during the Second World War.
The Place de Cocotiers was redesigned in 1986 and the Bandstand completely refurbished. Only the lyre remains (as pictured).
