A railway siding was built here in 1868 & named Nobby Railway Siding.The area surrounding the siding became known as Nobby. When a town was surveyed in 1891 it was called Davenport after a politician. The Railway Department refused to rename the siding & having a town & a railway siding with different names caused confusion, so the locals referred to the town as Nobby. Eventually the town was renamed Nobby officially in 1931.
