The Baptist society was formed in 1842 and met at Rogerson's Hall. The hall was purchase by the Whitin Brothers and the society continued to meet there. In the 1870's the site of the present day church was purchased from James Whitin, construction began in 1880. Completed at the cost of $11,000 in 1881 it held its dedication on August 4, 1881 and has been in continuous use since that day.
