Mayor Charles Loohuis and former Belgian SAS paratrooper Jaak Daemen reveal that year on the square in Hoogeveen a plaque commemorating the liberation of the town on 10 and 11 April 1945.
The plaque is a pillar of a meter high, with the text:

"the population of Hoogeveen is in silent gratitude to the 1st Parachute Regiment and SAS Belgium XII Manitoba Dragoons in Canada, liberators of our town on 10 and 11 April 1945.
Reported clear of enemy."
