This metal arch is at the eastern pedestrian entrance to the historic Trading Post Cemetery. The arch has the words: "Trading Post Cemetery" across the top.

This is the community cemetery for Trading Post, Kansas. Trading Post is the oldest continously occupied settlement in the state of Kansas, dating from 1838. The Marais Du Cygne Martyr's Memorial is in this cemetery. It commemorates the rounding up of 11 Freestate men by around 30 "Border ruffians". They were taken to a ravine 4 miles south where the Freestate men were shot. Five were killed, 5 were wounded, and 1 escaped unharmed by faking death. The five that were killed are also buried in this cemetery.
