The former Convent of Mercy is a two-storeyed rendered-brick and corrugated steel convent and chapel complex in the Federation Gothic style. The Convent closed in 1979 and in 1980 became the Regional Art Gallery,relevant pieces of furniture have been returned to their former home, there is also the recreation of a Nun's cell in a former upstairs bedroom .
Above the entry is written "Sancto Patritio Hiberniae Apostolo" which translates as St.Patrick Apostle of Ireland
