This old wood frame church, built in 1838, has a very tall spire which is topped with an octagonal finial and a "fish" weathervane. It makes for a pretty good benchmark. No longer brown, it is white today.

STATION DESCRIPTION

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1934 (KGC)
STATION RECOVERED.  CHURCH WAS BUILT IN 1840 AND ACCORDING TO
AN AGED LOCAL RESIDENT HAS REMAINED UNCHANGED SINCE THAT DATE.  IT
IS THE CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH AT THE CORNER OF FRANKLIN AND
ELM STREETS AND HAS A TALL, SLENDER BROWN SPIRE.

STATION RECOVERY (1944)

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1944 (FLP)
STATION RECOVERED.  ACCORDING TO LOCAL INFORMATION IT HAS REMAINED
UNCHANGED SINCE 1863, EXCEPT ABOUT 20 YEARS AGO IT WAS STRUCK
BY LIGHTNING BUT IT WAS REBUILT THE SAME AS IT WAS BEFORE.
THERE IS A WEATHER VANE ON TOP OF THE SPIRE.  OTHER THAN ABOVE,
THE RECOVERY NOTE OF K.G.C. IN 1934 IS ADEQUATE.
