Whenever people think of volcanos they think of the lava, smoke plumes, and ash falls that happen over millennium that build up a volcano into an imposing topographic landmark. But few wonder as to how ice and frost chisel the rock to create the profiles they see before them.

At the Fire & Ice Interpretive Trail this hand-in-hand sculpting is explained through interpretive panel that line the half-mile walk. The fiery aspect of volcanism and the freezing cold of ice cracking the rocks apart.

In a process that has been taking place for about 500,000 years Mt Baker has grown to 10,781 feet | 3,286 metres. And through this walk you can learn how these processes work.

Access to the trail is free, however parking requires a $5.00 daily pass. If you want to walk a few miles you can park further down the mountain for free.
