La Place :
Le pont Victoria est un pont ferroviaire et routier qui relie Saint-Lambert à Montréal (arrondissement Le Sud-Ouest), en enjambant le fleuve Saint-Laurent. Il dessert les régions administratives de la Montérégie et de Montréal. C'est le premier pont construit sur le fleuve Saint-Laurent.
La construction du pont Victoria commença le 20 juillet 1854 et se termina en 1859 au coût de 6,8 millions de dollars. À l’époque, le pont était de type tubulaire, constitué d'un long tube composé d'éléments de fer forgé préfabriqués en Angleterre. Le tube reposait sur des piles de maçonnerie renforcée de vingt-quatre becs brise-glace en fer très massif. Il fut ouvert à la circulation des trains le 12 décembre 1859. Avec une longueur de 2 790 mètres, c'était le plus long pont ferroviaire au monde, considéré comme la huitième merveille du monde.
Au cours des années 1870, les locomotives à charbon vinrent remplacer progressivement celles qui fonctionnaient au bois. Ce changement est la cause de problèmes techniques pour la traversée du pont Victoria : la fumée de charbon endommage l'acier de la structure tubulaire et les voyageurs sont incommodés par la fumée. Temporairement, des ouvertures sont effectuées dans la structure pour permettre l’aération du pont. Une solution permanente est proposée le 4 mai 1897, marquant le début de travaux majeurs sur le pont. Le tube fut déposé et remplacé par un tablier à poutres en treillis, créant ainsi le « Victoria Jubilee Bridge ». Les travaux permirent d’élargir le pont pour accueillir une deuxième voie de chemin de fer et une ligne de tramway. Celui-ci a existé jusqu’au 13 octobre 1956 ; il fut remplacé par une voie routière qui vint s’ajouter à celle qui avait été construite en 1927.
Lors des travaux d'aménagement de la voie maritime du Saint-Laurent, en 1958, on ajouta la voie de contournement de Saint-Lambert.

Victoria (née Alexandrina Victoria, le 24 mai 1819 au Palais de Kensington, à Londres et morte le 22 janvier 1901 à Osborne House sur l'Île de Wight) fut reine du Royaume-Uni de Grande-Bretagne et d'Irlande du 20 juin 1837 jusqu'à sa mort. À partir du 1er juillet 1867, elle fut également reine du Canada, ainsi qu'impératrice des Indes à compter du 1er mai 1876, puis enfin reine d'Australie le 1er janvier 1901.
Victoria épousa son cousin le prince Albert de Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha en 1840. Leurs neuf enfants épousèrent des membres de nombreuses familles royales et nobles, ce qui valut à Victoria le surnom de « grand-mère de l'Europe ».
Son règne de 63 ans et sept mois, le plus long de toute l'histoire du Royaume-Uni, est appelé époque victorienne, une période de profonds changements sociaux, économiques et technologiques au Royaume-Uni et de rapide expansion de l'Empire britannique.

The Victoria Bridge is a road and rail bridge linking Saint-Lambert to Montreal (borough of Le Sud-Ouest) by crossing the St. Lawrence River. It serves the administrative regions of Montérégie and Montreal. It is the first bridge built across the St. Lawrence River.
The construction of the Victoria Bridge began July 20, 1854 and ended in 1859 at a cost of $ 6.8 million. At the time, the bridge was of the tubular type, consisting of a long tube made of wrought iron elements prefabricated in England. The tube was based on reinforced masonry stacks of twenty four icebreakers beaks made with very solid iron. It was opened to train traffic on December 12, 1859. During the development work of the Seaway St. Lawrence in 1958, the St. Lambert bypass was added.
