The 121st Ohio Infantry Regiment Monument is located near Snodgrass Hill on Vittetoe Road in the Chickamauga National Battlefield. The plaque describes the action on Sept. 20, 1863, from 2:00 P.M. until sunset.

This monument is dedicated to the
121st Ohio Infantry Regiment and is in recognition of their service during the
Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863.
It marks their location on Sunday 20, 1863 from about 2:00 P. M. until sundown. The commander of the regiment was Lieut. Col.
Henry B. Banning. There is only one monument to the 121st Ohio Infantry Regiment on the battlefield.
To reach this monument:
From the parking area on Snodgrass Hill, head west pass the monuments on the hilltop. A trail will continue to the west near the 87th Indiana and the 2nd Minnesota monuments. Follow this path until you reach a clearing.

Text on the plaque:
Sept. 19th, 1863, early in the morning near Reed’s Bridge. Moved thence under orders of division commander, to Red House Bridge.
Sept. 20, at 11:30 A.M. moved from McAfee’s Church to Thomas’ support. 2:00 P.M. charged and drove the enemy from this position and held it until near sundown. Repulsed three persistent assaults of the enemy, driving him to the foot of the hill and capturing the colors of the 22nd Alabama. Near sundown retired to the first hill in the rear and about 6:30 P.M. withdrew with the Army to Rossville. The Regiment was on the right of the Army during the afternoon.
Number engaged 235: killed, wounded and missing 99.
Organized at Deleware, Ohio, Sept. 11, 1862, for three years.

Short Significance Description:

Monument contributes to nat'l significance of park under NR Criterion A because it represents the national movement among veterans & related groups to commemorate Civil War battlefields. This was the first U.S. national military park.

Short Physical Description
10' x 4' x 9', the monument consists of rock-faced base and side-by-side shaft, with two portions at an oblique angle. Each side has bronze plaque and peaked, rock-faced top. Left side has acorn in relief; state seal missing from right.
Long Physical Description
Monument is located on Horseshoe Ridge on the Chickamauga Battlefield, map site #153.
