In King Street, which was once an important road in Aldeburgh before a good portion of the town disappeared under the sea, and now the second road back from the shore-line, stands this unusual red-brick building. It is rendered and white-washed above the ground floor, two storeys, and has a small gated area, now partially blocked with a window, forming a small courtyard. Above the two arches is a terracotta frieze bearing interlaced lettering and numerals similar to that found on Ipswich's Cauldwell Hall Road Co-op and on Morpeth House, also in Ipswich,
...for which see Ipswich Co-op
...and Morpeth House
Is the Co-op connection a mere coincidence of designer, or was the 'house' in Aldeburgh built as a Co-op outlet? Maybe it's just a design fad of the Late Victorian, but it is quite rare, one I've cannot remember seeing before.
