The two-sided cornerstone on the northeast corner of this building reads on both sides: FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH Founded Apr. 30, 1894 / Dedicated Sept. 26, 1943.
First Baptist Church was founded on April 30, 1894, just two years after the area was opened to settlement with the Land Run of 1892. The current building was dedicated on September 26, 1943. This is a one and two-story stucco-clad brick building in the Spanish Mission style. All windows have exposed brick sills and surrounds with multiple rows of arched bricks at the top. The units have multi-paned double hung windows with segmented fanlights.
There are projected pilasters on all sides, clad in stucco. The roof is gabled, and the facade has a raised pediment with an exposed brick stepped roof line. The entrance is raised and accessed by two 11-step staircases with iron railings. The entrance has two aluminum and glass doors with a large fixed transom.
This is an active Baptist church under the organization of the Southern Baptist Association. They have Bible study and services on Sundays and Wednesdays and an active children's and youth program.
