Finding this waymark will involve a bit of planning, as it is a 6km return walk from the locked gate 'north' of here, in the World Heritage listed Barrington Tops National Park.
What you are looking for on the Barrington trig pillar is a plaque to the memory of Noel Wildash:
In Memory of
Noel Wildash and Friends
Who perished near here on 9th August 1981.
On my return to Australia 1982 I joined a bushwalking club in Sydney that had some representation in the Bushwalkers Wilderness Search & Rescue attempts at finding the missing plane in the rugged terrain where the plane has been plotted to have disappeared.
It remains a mystery. Read the attached link for more detailed analysis of the transcripts of that day/night.
