The Sir William Arrol Gantry Crane was built in Glasgow ,Scotland in 1911, and was used on the now demolished timber jetty til the 1970's. The Bunbury Timber jetty was constructed in 1864 using convict labour, the jetty eventually measured over 1.6km long. The breakwater where the crane is located was originally part of the jetty.
