St. Ambrose Anglican Church was built using funds raised locally & by a gift from parishioners of St. Ambrose Church Bournemouth, England.

The gift was awarded to Gilgandra (over other towns in the British dominions) due to the town's remarkable war service record, which included the 1915 Coo-ee March. The Coo-ee March was a recruitment drive which saw men march from Gilgandra to Sydney recruiting 300 along the way.

The church is Federation Gothic style. It was designed by architect Louis Reginald Williams who is regarded as one of Australia's foremost ecclesiastical architects.

The bell tower stands at the front of the church, has one bell & is topped by a small spire.
