This obelisk style zinc marker is locarted in the south central portion of the Elliott Grove Cemetery north of Brunswick, Mo. west of Fort Orleans Avenue.

"John F. Cunningham M.D. fourth of a family of six children, born in Warren County, NY March 11, 1819. His father,also John F, a native of Greenfield Mass was a printer by trade. Born in Mass in 1781. When he was 29 yrs old he married Ms. Orpha Bingham of Chesterfield NH and two years later in 1812 they removed to New york. There he founded the Warren County "Republican" at Glenn Falls NY. He died at Watertown NY in 1838.
His wife Orpha survived him nearly thirty years. She moved to Ohio and died there in 1867.

The son John F Cunningham was reared and educated in New York. Studied medicine at 17 under Dr. A Trowbridge, of WatertownNY. He followed with 2 years of study at Willoughby Medical College, Willoughby Ohio. Graduating in 1840 at the age of 21.

Practiced medicine at Roseville and Zanesville Ohio---1840-1853
Married Mary H Dolman of Ohio ---1840
Moved to Keytesville Mo------1853
Established first drugstore at Keytesville---1854
Moved to Brunswick,MO-----1858
Physician Druggist at Brunswick--1858-1883
Presiding judge of County Court--1861-1870
Probate judge, and president of county court ex-officio-1866-1870
Member Board of Directors, Brunswick and Chilicothe----1866-1867

Cunningham Township and Cunningham Town were named after Dr. Cunningham in recognition of his public service.

In 1883, The doctor and Mrs Cunningham had three children Lewis A, George W., and John F. JR. The doctor was a member of Masonic Order."
