The sturdy yellow brick store was built by James C. Stout in 1866. Mr. Finch bought in in 1875 for use as a general store with merchandise occupying both floors and the basement. In 1907 it became the Guttermann Brothers Shirt Factory which occupied the building for 7 years. For the next 6 years the building became home to the Lake Pepin Pearl Button Factory until pollution killed the clams that were necessary for the buttons. The building saw numerous other businesses including a casket company, a Chevrolet dealership, and a chicken hatchery.
After being boarded up for 70 years, the building was restored to its original appearance and is now home to the Lake Pepin Pearl Button Company antique store. A small display of pearl buttons can be seen in the back of the first floor room.
