The town of Lake City was established in 1855 two years after first settler Jacob Booty arrived. In 1872 it was incorporated as a city and became a busy grain shipping port. This Romanesque city hall was built in 1899 and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. The NRHP plaque hangs to the right of the front door.
