This stone reads "Hum Suey/Died/Nov 1953" There are two lines of Chinese text to the right that dispute this. They say that the surname is "Tan", and given name is "Ying Chuan". They also give the place of birth as Guangdong, China. It is uncertain how this came to be, although it is possible that the Chinese text was carved from text supplied by the family, and the English name is how they were known locally.

The stone is located in an obscure, overgrown section of the cemetery, on the lowest terrace. This cemetery has over 2000 graves recorded, but only 2 Chinese graves. There are no similar graves here or in surrounding cemeteries, for that time or since. Why they were buried here is a mystery.
