The bell hanging over this historical marker was cast in St. Louis, Missouri sometime before 1857 when it was brought to Marine on St. Croix. It had previously been used on a steamboat but was used as a church bell in this community. Note the band of leaves and morning glories on the band near the top. A figure playing a harp is in the middle of the hanging bracket.
