Arthur Gordon McCrae was born in Adelaide, Australia on January 7, 1880 and became an engineer, earning a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Sydney. He was second class passenger on the maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic as it cross the Atlantic Ocean from Southampton, England to NY, NY. McCrae died in the Titanic disaster after the ship hit an iceberg east of Nova Scotia and sunk.
His body was recovered by the cable ship MacKay Bennett. He was the 209th person whose remains were recovered. His remains were brought to Halifax, Nova Scotia and he was buried in Fairview Lawn Cemetery on 10 May 1912. He was 32 years old.
McCrae's Celtic cross headstone in the shortest row of five headstones is the most noticeable among the victims of the RMS Titanic buried in Fairview Lawn Cemetery. Titanic. His headstone is inscribed:
