A Silhouette of a Nye Bevan, & Walter Conway, made from stainless steel sheet. The sculpture can be viewed equally well from either side. The Silhouette shows Bevan standing, holding the bench, (an artistic public seating sculpture). The subject seated is a sculpture of Walter Conway. The sculpture is one of many famous local characters in the Tredegar area, sculpted by local artist Tim Ward in 2013.

Standing at the bench is the silhouette public art sculpture of Aneurin 'Nye' Bevan, who founded the free National Health Service in the UK. Seated at the bench is steel silhouette of Walter Conway. Conway (1873-1933) was the distinguished Secretary of the Tredegar Medical Aid Society in South Wales. This society contributed the model which established the NHS, that Nye used to Tredegarise the Nation.

Aneurin Bevan usually known as Nye, Born in Tredegar on 15 November 1897 – Died 6 July 1960. Nye was a Welsh Labour Party politician who is best known for overseeing the creation of the National Health Service.
Bevan created free healthcare for all (NHS) in Great Britain, after seeing how the local miners (of which he was one) created its own health service in miniature, in Tredegar.

"Aneurin Bevan was one of the most important ministers of the post-war Labour government and the chief architect of the National Health Service. He was born on 15 November 1897 in Tredegar in Wales. His father was a miner and the poor working class family in which Bevan grew up gave him first-hand experience of the problems of poverty and disease.
Bevan left school at 13 and began working in a local colliery. He became a trades union activist and won a scholarship to study in London. It was during this period that he became convinced by the ideas of socialism. During the 1926 General Strike Bevan emerged as one of the leaders of the South Wales miners. In 1929 Bevan was elected as the Labour MP for Ebbw Vale. In 1934 he married another Labour MP, Jennie Lee." Text Source: (visit link)

"Tredegar is a vibrant town with an unique history with a population of around 15,000. It is situated in the South of Wales, 156 miles west from London, 30 miles North of Cardiff.
The town has been inexistence for over 200 years, and its past has been shaped by heavy industry, particularly Iron and Coal.
Tredegar has had many famous residents including the birth place for Neil Kinnock & Ray Reardon. By far the most famous person to come from the town was Aneurin Bevan, usually known as Nye Bevan.
Bevan created the National Health Service after seeing how the local miners (of which he was one) created its own health service in miniature, in Tredegar.
Tredegar today is a town that after years in decline, is a town that is now building for better things for its future. Looking forward and building on what has been before." Text source: (visit link)
