Located in McColl Park in Woodward, this original railroad depot remains on the spot where it once serviced the community with train service. It was remodeled in 1958 and has become the shelter house for the park. Its history can be found on the front of the building and reads:

“The Des Moines & Central Iowa Railway was incorporated in 1899 as the Inter-Urban Railway. It was tied in with the Des Moines city street railway system with branches out of towns east and northwest of Des Moines.

The final extension was the so-called Beaver Valley Division. This 34-mile road went through Herrold and Granger to Perry with a three mile branch from Moran to Woodward. Woodward service began in June of 1906.

Both freight and passengers were hauled over the line. The road went into receivership and reorganized in 1922 as the Des Moines and Central Iowa Railway. Revenues declined and the short Moran-Woodward stub ceased passenger service in August of 1941. The Woodward branch was entirely abandoned in August of 1946.

Source, Through the Years, a history of Woodward published during the Woodward Centennial Celebration in 1983.”
