“The Maryland State Memorial is located outside of Vicksburg National Military Park on former park property in the City of Vicksburg. It is situated on south Confederate Avenue approximately 0.2 miles south of the Mulvihill Street intersection. The memorial consists of a bronze tablet mounted on a granite pedestal, commemorating the 3d Maryland Battery under the command of Ferdinand O. Claiborne.
The memorial was dedicated in March 1914.”

For the siege’s sesquicentennial, an information banner accompanied the monument with further information:

“The Maryland State Memorial represents the 3d Maryland Artillery Battery under the command of Captain Ferdinand O. Claiborne, who was killed during the siege. The monument is a tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the State’s Soldiers who suffered 9 casualties during the conflict. The Memorial was dedicated in March 1914.”
