Arvel Long was born on 15 March 1898 and died on 23 March 1999, having lived over 101 years. He was born in Rocky Comfort and had 6 siblings. From 1945 to 1954 he was the circuit clerk and recorder for nearby McDonald County. He was a member of Ridgley Baptist Church in nearby Barry County, and was a farmer and a Mason.
He lived most of his life in Rocky Comfort. He married Lois McClure in 1917. She survived him by one year, living to a few months less than 100 years herself.
