"Chenango Fire Company, Inc. proudly protects 14310 people living in an area of 38 square miles. We operate out of 2 stations that protect a primarily commercial area. Our department is a private department whose members are on a volunteer status.
The Chenango Fire Company is a 100% volunteer service that contracts with the towns of Chenango and Dickinson. The Chenango Fire Company's fire protection district covers 38 sq. miles in the two towns. Chenango is the second busiest volunteer fire company in Broome County. The Chenango Fire Company borders the City of Binghamton's north side. Chenango is actually a new department formed in 1985, when the Nimmonsburg and Hinmans Corners fire companies consolidated.
The Chenango Fire Company will be challenged in the years ahead, with major commercial developments coming to its district. Chenango Fire already covers, in its fire district, 5 major shopping centers, 2 interstate highways, Broome County(B.C.) Jail, B.C. Public Safety Facility, and Broome Community College. It should be interesting to see the future, but the Chenango Fire Company will be prepared and ready for whatever the future throws at us."
