There are two cemeteries in the area that are sometimes called the Metcalf Cemetery, including this one, and another one at
N36°39.730' W94°03.535'
which I chose not to Waymark because the land owners asked that it not be opened to the general public, just visits by family members. This one that I chose to Waymark is also called the Hickmans Cemetery (not to be confused with the
Hickman Cemetery also in Barry County). The owners of this land, who are friendly to visits to the cemetery, called it the Hickmans (plural) cemetery.
To further confuse matters, the FindAGrave Metcalf Cemetery documents the graves at this cemetery, but the description of how to get there is for the wrong Metcalf Cemetery! The description takes you up the hill to the one that I chose not to Waymark. However, the 9 interments described are for this cemetery at the listing coordinates. How's that?!?
The
Barry County MOGenWeb site, which describes both cemeteries, has a relatively good description under Metcalf, not the Metcalf-2, except that you do not have to park along the Farm Road 2190 (FR2190) and look at the cemetery as in the ugly photo on that page. Instead, you can turn right at

onto a grassy lane that angles off of FR2190, drive about 64 yards, and the cemetery is on your left, with plenty of place to turn around. (Note that the directions to both cemeteries on the MOGenWeb pages are pretty good and correct. But someone incorrectly used the directions to "Metcalf-2" in the FindAGrave entry for "Metcalf" which matches the MOGenWeb "Metcalf", not "Metcalf-2". So ignore the FindAGrave directions and use the MOGenWeb site's directions, but with my ammendment, above.)
I have chosen to name this the Hickman-Metcalf Cemetery to distinguish it from the other ("Metcalf-2") Cemetery, and since the locals call it Hickmans. There are more than the 9 recorded graves here, probably a total of about 16 or so.
