The Vitra Dome was created in 1975 by Charter Industries after Buckminster Fuller. The lightweight tent construction with an outer frame of aluminium tubes has a diameter of about 25 meters.
The dome was used as a car showroom in Detroit in 1978/79. In 2000 it was acquired by Vitra and brought to the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein. It is located at the northern edge of the area and used for exhibitions and events.
