The first afforestation was in 1850, but already in 1824 there was seeding of pine seed on the sand hills to prevent erosion of sand for farmers Emmen Westenesch. Dolmen D45 , one of the ten dolmens located within the municipality of Emmen, is in the Emmerdennen. According to tradition, the dent in one of the capstones caused by King Louis Napoleon , during his visit to Drenthe in 1809, with horse and on top of all this dolmen stood.
