Gortel is an ancient hamlet of Emst in the town of Epe in the Dutch province Gelderland.'Gortel 'is probably a combo of filthy (marshy land) and loo (forest). It has probably called Goortelo first, but later, as with many places, shortened to Gortel. Although the neighborhood is small Gortel has its own school and a church. Local conditions have led the area has been given protected status, it is a protected village. The farms are all well preserved and the environment radiates tranquility.
Gortel consists of about 25 farms, forest cottages and a school. The village has around 70 inhabitants.
