The Chiloquin Library provides a collection of popular fiction, classics, nonfiction and reference books, large print books, magazines and the local newspapers. In addition to print books and periodicals we have audiobooks on CD’s and cassettes, music CDs, videotapes, and DVDs.
The Chiloquin Branch of the Klamath County Library was established in 1928, and situated in the Council Chambers in the City Hall. During the 1960’s the library expanded into the area that housed the fire engine, and in the early 1970’s the library was moved to the old high school building. But, in December of 1978, the heating system gave out, the building torn down, and the library ceased to function.
In 1980, the Chiloquin Lions Club along with interested citizens got permission to remodel a room in the City Hall, and the library was reactivated in May 1980. A very active Friends of the Library group was organized at that time. Until November of 1994 the City of Chiloquin provided space and paid utilities for the library, but finally needing the space itself, the City asked the library to move. The Cornerstone Christian Fellowship offered a portion of its space in the Chiloquin Plaza on a temporary basis, but it was obvious that the library would have to find another solution.
The Friends of the Library held their first benefit yard sale in June 1995, and earned a crucial $700 for library expenses. In 2000, the 6th annual sale grossed $4,700 which was contributed to the building fund for the new Community Center, which was now in full swing. In June, 2004 the Chiloquin Community Center opened its doors and now the library occupies one end of the building with a bright, cheerful atmosphere and friendly library staff.>
