The Port Macquarie (and Cowarra) storage dams are filled by water harvested from the Hastings River at Koree Island, 5 km south-west of Wauchope.
"In 1970, Port Macquarie Municipal Council constructed the small 90 ML dam below Transit Hill, known as O'Brien's Dam. The 2,500 ML Port Macquarie Dam (Rosendahl Reservoir) was constructed just downstream of O'Brien's Dam. It was completed in 1978 by the then NSW Public Works Department. O'Brien's Dam is no longer used for water supply and now captures stormwater.
