This tunnel is known as a number of names: Kings Number 4 (B&O's Official Name), King Tunnel (after the hollow in which it resides), Mineral Tunnel (after the town to the east), and as the B&O Tunnel #4. It lies one mile west of where Mineral Station was located.

It is a wood lined tunnel built on the same rail line as the Moonville Tunnel around 1855 by the Marietta & Cincinnati Railroad, and later became part of the B&O and then CSX. I believe the tunnel was originally unlined, but with a 12" x 12" timber skeleton. The walls were added later. The tunnel is 355.2 feet long, 143 feet straight, 211 feet with a 2 degree curve. It is 15 feet wide.

The tunnel was abandoned in the 1980s, and the tracks were removed by CSX.

Although not quite as popular as the Moonville tunnel with it's ghost stories, the King Tunnel is still a sight to behold, with it's huge timbers. There is some vandalism of the walls, but the tunnel is in otherwise good shape. Boards have been removed in some spots, revealing the hidden crevaces, some the size of a small-room.
